Hey That's My Fish - Setup
Hey That's My Fish is a simple board game yet has some subtle strategy to it. Hey That's My Fish is takes only about 5 to 10 minutes too. Aim is go consume the most fish with your penguins. Setup the board by shuffling the ice floes face down and setup eight rows of hex ice floes as follows: 8 ice floes across the top then 7 ice flows and alternate 8, 7, 8, 7, 8, 7. Screenshots are from the online version on BSW. Only downside to this game is it takes a couple minutes to setup the hexes.
Two Player game: each person has 4 penguins Players alternate placing their penguins on a single fish ice floe during the setup phase. The following shows an example play with two players (one red, the other blue). Hey That's My Fish - MovementMovement rules are simple. Penguins can never jump over other penguins or ice floes nor move through another penguin. Player's move one of their penguins on their turn as many spaces in any direction in a straight line. Players take the ice floe where they move from and receive that many points for each fish which is counted at the end of the game. Ice floes have 1, 2, or 3 fish. In the above example red moves his penguin to a 3 fish ice floe and takes the 1 fish ice floe he was previously on (see previous image).
Blue's turn and he moves his penguin to a 3 fish ice floe also and takes the 1 fish ice floe he was standing on previously.
Red moves his penguin two spaces to a 2 fish ice floe and takes the 1 fish ice floe he was standing on previously.
Blue moves his penguin to another 3 fish ice floe and takes the 3 fish ice floe he was standing on previously and now has 2 ice floes with a total of 4 fish. (1 fish + 3 fish) Hey That's My Fish - Trapping
Red moves to a 3 fish ice floe in effect cutting off the blue penguin from moving to the left side. This is the biggest part of Hey That's My Fish. Cutting off and trapping your opponent's penguins on small sections of ice floes allows you to eat more fish than them and thus ultimately win.
However, blue sees a golden opputunity to cut off the red penguin so he promptly move 3 spaces and cuts off the red penguin from moving to the left side of the ice floes.
Red retaliates and moves one space which guarantess the blue penguin is stuck or trapped on that small section of ice floes.
The above two penguins are trapped on that little section of ice floes. There's absolutely no escaping now. Hey That's My Fish - Blocking
After a few more turns the board looks like so. The bottom blue penguin is blocking the bottom red penguin from moving to the left side of the board. Hey That's My Fish - End of Game
At this point in the game the only moves left are to eat as many fish in the ice floe sections they have access to. No penguin can move through another nor can they jump over another penguin. So in effect the blue and red penguins are isolated from each other. Player's still alternate taking turns moving their penguins.
Red penguins have eaten as much as they could. Since blue still has some fish still to consume he does so taking as many turns as necessary as red waits. Whichever ice floes the penguins are still standing on are consumed also and counted in the final fish count. Now the game is over and each player counts their total fish they've consumed. In this paticular game blue won with 52 consumed fish to red's 48 consumed fish.
