Installing Mepis Linux
Installing a debian based distro doesn't get much easier than installing
Mepis Linux.
Put MEPIS Linux CD in and boot up and play around see if it detects your
hardware properly, etc. Now once your ready to install just click MEPIS
Installation Center link on your desktop.
Login user: demo pw: demo
root user: root pw: root
Click Install MEPIS on Hard Drive if not already chosen.

If you don't have any other operating system (dual-boot windows see here)
and wish to quickly install MEPIS without creating your own partitions
just choose Auto-install using entire disk and let it
do it's magic.
Confirm that it's ok to destroy any data on your harddisk.
It'll proceed by formatting a /, /home, and a swap partition.

MEPIS installs by copying over the system files to the harddisk.
Install GRUB (boot loader) to your MBR (master boot record) on your harddrive.
Confirm it's ok.
Set a username that'll you'll always login under and
a root password when you need to make administrative
changes. Don't forget the root password.
Computer name: name it whatever you want to identify
it on your LAN.
SaMBa Server for MS Networking: check this if you wish
to share files from this computer to other windows clients on your LAN.
Workgroup: make sure this matches your windows clients.
Guarddog
firewall services allows you to filter out many internet services.
If you wish to run a web, ftp, ssh, dhcp, or tftp server here you can
enable them to start on boot up.
Your done. After you click Yes wait for a moment till
it shuts down then eject the cd.
