Ubuntu Kubuntu 5.04 Hoary Newbie Install Guide

Press ENTER to install Ubuntu with GNOME.

Installing Kubuntu with KDE is almost exactly the same as Ubuntu.

Choose language you wish to use.

Selection your location

Select keyboard type

Choose a hostname

I believe this is where if you have a network card and wireless card you choose your default network. If you choose wireless it'll prompt you for your ESSID and encryption key/passphrase.

Just let it auto partition for you if your not dual-booting another operating system.

Verify the partition sizes and select Finish. It is uses ext3 journaled filesystem.

Asks you a second time if your sure. Select Yes using the arrow keys.

Make a strawberry pina coloda

Begin drinking your pina coloda

Read what it says above about GMT.

Choose your timezone

Usually people will put Firstname Lastname here.

Select a username that you'll use to login with.

Pick a password and next screen will ask you to re-enter for confirmation.

Ok first stage is complete so take out your CD or DVD and let it reboot.

Shows 354MB of packages that are going to be install from the harddisk. They were previously copied to the harddisk from the CD or DVD. A whopping 1.2GB will be used and they're installed.

This will take sometime. So go start doing some vacation planning.

Xorg configuration chooose the different resolutions you'd like to run. I really wish somehow this would be at the end so it doesn't interrupt the install.

Still will take quite sometime while it sets up the 622 packages. I like how it automatically applies any security updates if you have an active internet connection.

Getting near completion give it a few more minutes. Then you'll be able to login.
